Houdek

Houdek started in the Twin Cities, comprised of several South Dakota musicians who found themselves living in Minnesota. The album “Return to Houdek,” consisting of 15 original songs inspired by life in South Dakota, was released in 2010, and the band has since played several notable events in its home state: JazzFest in Sioux Falls, Deadwood Jam, Christmas at the Capitol Grand Lighting Ceremony, Bassmaster Pro Elite Outdoor Festival, and Lilly Fest original songwriters showcase in Fort Pierre, among others.   

Houdek’s original material has always covered a wide array of musical styles and influences, but its sound has become even more diverse in the last few years since working with a new lineup. Now living in South Dakota, founding members Patrick and Jennifer Baker and Tom and Molly Valentine have been joined by their 15-year-old sons Jack Baker and Patrick Valentine on keyboards and drums, respectively. This “new blood” has ushered in a fresh sound and inspired the band to continue writing and recording new songs as well as finding new venues and audiences.
